Hood River Middle School (HRMS), a rural public school in Hood River, Oregon, launched a high altitude weather balloon into the atmosphere, connecting it across multiple subjects; planned a grade-level, cross-curricular field trip to the Columbia River Gorge; and converted a janitor’s closet into a museum to celebrate their district’s 150-year anniversary.

  • Exceeded 2014 state averages in all categories on the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS).
  • Since 2013, rated in the top 15% of Oregon middle schools for student performance.
  • Exceeded 2015 math proficiency rates for both the state and other schools with similar demographics.
