Don Doehla
French Teacher
I am a redirected French teacher, formerly at Vintage High School in Napa, and Vallejo High School, in Vallejo, California. I am also co-director of the Berkeley WL Project at UC Berkeley’s Language Center, where we offer workshops for pre-service teachers and those in K–12 in communication-based methods of language acquisition. I am particularly interested in teaching languages through inquiry-based approaches, especially PBLL (project-based language learning), tech tools, and authentic resources in culturally relevant contexts with proficiency-based linguistic outcomes.
I have been very privileged to have lived and studied in France for four years, as well as in Québec, Canada and in Sénégal.
I hold a BA in French from UC Berkeley and an MA in French from UC Santa Barbara. I am a National Board–certified teacher, and hold the CLAD and the CA Single Subject Teaching Credential in both French and History. I believe strongly in the importance of collaboration, so I am a member of AATF, ACTFL, CLTA, FLA-NC and ASCD.
