“Teach from the heart, so all may learn!”
As a seventh grade Language Arts educator, I am excited to continue what is working in education and research/alter what is not. I believe in building a sincere trust and respect with students, and it is reciprocated just as sincerely. Maintaining a community of “family,” where each is as important as the next, but recognizing a variation in strengths, weaknesses, and interests, is what we stand for in our classroom.
Utilizing Developmental Design, Life Long Learner Competencies, the Seven Pathways, Problem Based, Inquiry, Cooperative Learning, variety of use of technology, 3-D Printing, research, plus so much more, students are empowered to make their own choices and innovations with ease. Students choose their seating, rubric, plan, process, materials, product, and audience. They have due dates along the way, and I begin by sharing a concept, then they take it from there. Students and I learn together, what works and what doesn’t. We solve situations together. Students leave my class caring about themselves, others, and their community. They are better problem solvers, innovators, are curious about the world and how it works, and have begun to find what their place is in this world. I am proud to be an educator and learner with the children of today. Follow me and my class on Twitter @PeacefulSmile.
