Ash Kizer

Elementary Math Specialist

Dr. Ash Kizer is an elementary math specialist for the Jefferson County school district in Central Alabama. A National Board-Certified Teacher since 2014, he was an elementary teacher for over 21 years and a math coach for two years; earning several awards, including NAIS Teacher of the Future (2009), Adamsville Elementary School Second Mile Teacher (2017), and Jefferson County Elementary Teacher of the Year (2019). As the recipient of several grants, Dr. Kizer has leveraged community resources to build a teaching farm at Adamsville Elementary, complete with raised bed gardens, chicken coops, and a solar-powered barn. Using agriculture as a theme, Dr. Kizer has been able to engage students in applied mathematics, problem-based learning, and collaborative STEAM activities that inspire students to continue learning mathematics.
